On Monday, my sweet Abby informed me that it was Kitty’s birthday. Kitty’s four now. And Kitty needed a cake. Not one of Abby’s cakes from her pink princess kitchen. Nope. Kitty needed a real birthday cake. Because it was her birthday.
Deciding it would be fun to humor Abby, I told her that we would make Kitty a cake, but with Mama being busy on Monday, it would probably have to wait until the next day.
No problem. Kitty’s birthday quickly changed to Tuesday.
So, yesterday, since the cupboards were a little sparce anyway, we traipsed to the store to buy the necessary ingredients for Kitty’s cake, Abby excitedly asking for every pink or princess themed decoration available, and Mama firmly maintaining just cake mix. Chocolate cake mix. Yummm.
After dinner, Abby, who by this point was very excited about the upcoming party, pulled her chair up to the kitchen counter to “help” Mama make the cake. Together we mixed and poured and decided on cupcakes instead of a full cake. Then Jonah joined in and helped with the cream cheese frosting and the placing of four candles on one cupcake for Kitty.
As we all sat around the table with Kitty, candles lit, we sang a very hearty Happy Birthday to Kitty, who was poised to blow out the candles as soon as the song was over. With help from Jonah and Abby, Kitty blew those candles out and prepared to eat her cupcake. However, she was a little exuberant in her efforts and ended up with frosting all over her little face…which delighted a certain three year-old girl in the room.
Full of sugar, and quite pleased with the party, Kitty was tucked into bed shortly thereafter. And after some cuddle time with Mama, Abby joined her too. But not before informing me that tomorrow would be Cinderella’s birthday!
