We attended Jonah’s Blue and Gold Banquet for Cub Scouts last night, which was, truly, a blast. The theme was “Chinese New Year”, including chinese food for dinner and fortune cookies, but fortunately for all adults involved, NO chop sticks. As our Den Leader stated, can you even imagine 60 Cub Scouts with chopsticks in their hands!! Plus all their siblings!!!
Yep, we didn’t go there.
Plus, there was a magician from the museum of science who came and put on a show for the boys. She showed the boys how to push a skewer through a balloon without popping the balloon, how to pull a table cloth from underneath a pile of buckets, and how to put a flame to a balloon without popping it. Plus, her finale was to lie on a bed of nails. As the good folks of New England would say…Wicked cool! The boys were definitely jazzed!
But the highlight of the evening came right before dessert when Jonah was allowed to enjoy his prize for being the top popcorn seller in the Pack.
As you have probably guessed by now, Jonah’s prize was to throw a pie in the face of his Scout Master. A pie that he made! With an entire can of whipped cream! AND a cherry on top!
Jonah has been so excited about this event that he was bouncing on his feet as he was waiting to throw the pie.
Some folks were a little concerned that Jonah might be intimidated throwing a pie in his Scout Master’s face. After all, the man is tall, muscular, and has the appearance and posture of someone who has served in the military. But was Jonah intimidated? My Jonah?!? Pshaw. There was no intimidation. Not a moment’s hesitation. Simply pure glee.
Jonah marched right up to his Scout Master and smeared the pie fantastically. And then he started laughing and jumping up and down with his arms straight up in the air. He was so proud of himself!! And all of the other Cub Scouts were very proud as well. He received many, MANY high-fives on his way back to his seat. As well as many statements of “That was AWESOME!”
Jonah says: “(Scout Master) thought I was going to put a pie in his lap, but then I lifted it up and threw it in his face…which was the fun stuff. And I got to put the whipped cream on it…and the cherry! And I think the cherry got in his mouth, and he chewed it up and swallowed it. And all the kids thought that was funny.”
